My name is Cosmopolitan and I am a cocktail.
I am made with vodka, Cointreau, cranberry and lime juice.
I was born in a contest created by the Cosmopolitan Magazine but as my birth was not properly registered quite a few ended up arguing over my paternity and therefore more than one claims to be my author.
For example, the Gay community of San Francisco in the 70´s or the barmaid Cheryl Cook, in South Beach, Florida in 1985.
The important thing is that I exist and that people enjoy me.
I am a more “feminine” version of Dry Martini, fashionable in those days, but the way I tasted did not please women too much . So Cheryl Cook created me with more of a fruity flavor, a little less alcohol and a colour that women enjoy : pink. She served me first to a friend of hers and after half an hour all the clients of the bar had ordered me
Some people say that my name comes from the variety of origins of my ingredients and others to the fact that theCosmopolitan magazine dedicated an article to me.
I, Cosmopolitan, was famous throughout the States but when the TV serie “Sex and the city” started I became even more popular as Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda were always having me when they went out. From then onwards I became related to the word “glamour”.
Madonna tried me after the Grammy awards ceremony in the famous “Rainbow Room” in New York and I became her favourite cocktail.
